Mentor Game

The mentor game I selected was Terraria. I selected this game as it's been a game that I have owned for years but for some reason never taken the time to actually sit down and enjoy. Part of this reason for having put it off for years is the graphics. There is just something about more modern games that choose to use older looking graphics that throws me off. I grew up watching my brother play the earliest Final Fantasy and Zelda games that were in this graphic form because that was the actual era they were designed in; it wasn't a design decision. This is the same reason I have purposely never played Minecraft. I know so many people enjoy Minecraft and I legitimately think I would enjoy it too if I gave it a chance but the intentionally pixelated design just throws me off! Despite this, I am aware that Minecraft and games like it have played a significant role in the lives of students and my continuing to judge them without giving them an actual shot isn't helpful to anyone. Picking Terraria as my mentor game will allow for me to get a good understanding of what all goes into developing a game of this caliber and I think it will also make me see these types of games in a different light. Just because they intentionally choose an older design aesthetic doesn't mean they are any less advanced or complicated then the video games that require higher-powered graphics cards.
